SUMMER CAMP OVERVIEW
The right camp should be one of the most fun filled and growing experiences of a child's life.
A Program with Purpose
The right camp should be one of the most fun filled and growing experiences of a child's life. At Pleasant Hill you'll find a camp home where you not only have a blast but you can learn new things, meet new friends, and discover the spirit of adventure, inside of you. During the day, you'll find activity areas for almost every interest including performing arts, marksmanship, action sports, outdoor living, crafts, team sports and more all of which will teach you new skills and develop your confidence. Our evening fireside is the best time of the day! It is during this all camp gathering that you'll get to perform your skits and mimes for all of your friends (if you've selected performing arts). You'll get to know God in a new and fresh way, and learn that He loves you for who you are without condition or limitation! We'll show you some fresh new ways to look at who you really are and we think you'll like what you see. At Pleasant you'll find a warm feeling that comes from our special brand of camping, a place where you can shine from the inside out!
A Staff with Commitment
What makes our camp so special? Our staff is a key ingredient. Here, you'll find that our staff cares about YOU. They are there for you to listen and share. You are celebrated for your new achievements and your counselors are there to encourage you along the way. Our counselors are an exceptional group of college age mature and responsible people who really love kids. They are the ones who quietly yet effectively blend a very special Christian environment into the week for our campers. Our counselors are lead by a year round staff of dedicated camp people with years of experience. All of our staff members have a sincere desire to help you find a place to shine!

"I just wanted to tell you how much our daughter enjoyed herself this summer at your camp. This was her, our, first experience and it couldn't have been better! She loved her counselors and the entire experience. When she first approached us about a summer camp, I was hesitant and overwhelmed. I searched for camps and yours stood out. You answered my questions and your staff helped me with payments; all of which was appreciated. When we arrived to drop her off, the check in procedure was helpful and easy. Everyone made us feel welcome. While she was there, we were able to catch up via the pictures your staff took which made us feel connected. When we picked her up she couldn't stop talking about how much fun she had. Thanks so much!"
Dear (Camp Director),
"Our ten year old son, (Ben), just returned from a week at Pleasant Hill. To better understand the situation, I need to give you a little background. (Ben), our only child, was adopted from Russia at the age of 11 months. And up until last Sunday, he had never spent a night away from us. We are a little protective to say the least. We advised Chris, his counselor, to expect a few challenges and to call us if necessary. According to our son, Chris helped him through some very rough times. Because of his patience and kindness, (Ben) now has a new level of confidence and pride in his abilities. I am so impressed with the time Chris took to calm and reassure a very homesick child, helping him to overcome his fears and make it through the week. Many would have opted for the easy way out, leaving a child with a sense of failure that they would carry with them for a long time. We are so grateful to Chris for what he has given our son and would appreciate if you could pass that on to him."

PS: We loved the daily pictures on the website and the email option... great ideas!!
"My son attended your camp last summer, it was his first time away from home, so I was a little nervous. He had an absolute blast! He can't wait to see you all this summer! Thanks for a great camping experience!"
"Thank you so much for giving my son a wonderful camp experience! This was Josh's first resident camp. I was looking for a positive and nurturing setting with kids his own age and I definitely found it in Pleasant Hill. He will definitely be back next year. Thanks again."
-Camper's Mother
"...It was nice to see that she (my daughter) wrote in her journal about the love of Jesus and her expression of Christian values. it helped me realize that this was not only a camp for growing and independence and character building, but I feel that she got an opportunity to grow as a Christian, too."
"Its all my kids talked about for a month!"
"It is obvious how well you've trained your summer staff. They are courteous, helpful and service oriented. My daughter just loved her counselor."
Camper Behavior Policy Disclosure
While Pleasant Hill is committed to meeting each camper's unique needs while at camp, we are unable and not staffed to accommodate campers with significant known or diagnosed behavioral or emotional issues. Campers with significant behavioral or emotional issues should consider a camp designed to work with these issues such as camp Camp Nuhop.
However, If your camper has a condition such as ADHD or a similar condition who main streams well (by medication or otherwise) they will likely do well within our camp program. But please keep in mind that once at camp, if your camper requires consistent "one on one" attention to regulate behavior, and or consistently threatens the enjoyment of the camp experience for other campers, they will likely be dismissed and in this case no refunds are available. This is a policy that is important to the overall enjoyment and success of the camp experience for each other child in the cabin and at camp.
To put this into perspective, PHOC has historically found it necessary to send home 2-4 campers (of 400 or more campers total) per summer according to this policy. We do everything we can to help but cannot sacrifice other campers' experiences.
A full camper code of conduct, which is required to be signed by each camper and parent/ guardian prior to admission to camp, can be found here.
